Updates and My Hair Products and Regimen

Hey!
I'll be trying a lot of new styles soon. I plan to do rope/sister twists, a rope twist out, a Bantu knot out on twists, and I'm DETERMINED to learn to cornrow my own hair (because I'm too cheap to pay for a stylist).

I'm also buying a lot of new products. My current staple products are:
Conditioners-
Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner. I use it for deep conditioning(mixed with honey and oil), leave in, and detangling.
Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner. This is a great leave in that I heard about a lot from Katie from Happy Girl Hair. It leaves my hair so soft, and it smells beautiful!

Shampoos-
Organic Excellence Mint Shampoo. This is the first natural product I ever bought, about 2 years ago. I love the smell, it reminds me of candy canes. Iit is kind of like a clarifying shampoo, but it doesn't dry out my hair. I use it about once a month.
Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Shampoo. This ones a great balance of moisture (it's base is aloe vera gel) and cleansing power. I can't really think of anything bad or good to say about it.

Oils-
I use pretty much every oil there is. Olive, Coconut, Jojoba, Grapeseed, Avocado(great for deep conditioning!), and Sweet Almond. The one I use the most would have to be jojoba, because it is very light like coconut oil but without the strong smell. I put it on my wet hair after putting leave-in in and before sealing with Shea Butter.

Butters-
I use a Shea butter whip on all my hair styles. Like I said, I put it on after putting leave in and jojoba oil. It makes my hair soft and shiny. I whipped mine using coconut oil, aloe vera gel, sweet almond oil and Lavender essential oil. Lavender is my favorite smell. =]

I don't really have a hair routine or regimen. I wash and deep condition whenever I have enough energy to do it, which can be once a week, once every two weeks or longer, depending on the style. The only real consistent thing I do is put my hair in braids for a month at a time. I'll do loose styles or twists for a month, then braid it for the month and switch back & forth every other month.

Below are some recent pictures of my hair.

A braidout on small braids

Curly Twists (post about these coming soon!)

More fun styles coming soon!

  1. your hair is GORGEOUS...i never thought to use AOHR as a leave in conditioner, will try that. :) Your shea butter whip sounds marrrvelous, I'm not much of a mixtress but will think on whipping up my own batch ;) minus the lavender, hate floral scents

  4. Thanks Funbi! My regimen is a little TOO simple though, I wouldn't know what to write about. I have had braids in for the past 2 months and I'm gonna keep doing them until the end of May, which is the end of my school semester. I love reading other blogs but I don't think I have time right now to devote to my own blog, but I may do a major update at the end of May, or when I reach tail-bone length. =] Until then, you can view my Fotki. I update that a lot more often, and I like to interact with others on there too. http://public.fotki.com/jazmineb/
